  PJ2 - Curacao, March 2002

We were active from Curacao, PJ2, from March 15 to March 28, 2002 with these callsigns:

PJ2/DL7DF - CW
PJ2/DL7UFR - SSB
PJ2/DL7UFN - RTTY & PSK31
PJ2/DL4WK - 6m

Curaçao is the largest and most popular island of the Leeward (or ABC-)Islands. They are located close to the Venezuelan coast in the south of the Caribbean Sea. The distance to Venezuela is only 35 miles, so you can see the continent on clear days. Amerigo Vespucci came to Curaçao in 1499 and claimed it for the Spanish. But the island offered little in the way of fresh water and gold. Therefore the Spaniards abandoned Curaçao to the Dutch West India Company who used it as a merchant marine base. Curaçao remained under Dutch control until it gained its independence as part of the Netherlands Antilles in 1954. However, even as an autonomous region, the island maintains close ties with the Netherlands.

Our location during our stay on the island was the Villa Tobago in the Coral Estate Rif St.Marie. We operated simultaneously with up to four stations from 160m to 6m. We brought four transceivers and two linears, a Titanex V80 lowband vertical, a WARC beam, a R7 vertical, a GP for 30m und 40m, a 5 ele for 6m as well as some wire.

Despite the fact that PJ2 is a "semi-rare" DXCC entity, we were happy to log 25363 QSOs -- see our QSO statistics and continent breakdown. This includes 530 Q's on 160m, 2638 on 80m, 3645 on 30m, 3977 on 17m, 3537 on 12m, 100 on 6m and 883 on RTTY. QSL - as usual - via DL7DF.

Please do not forget to sign our sign our Guestbook! See you on our next DXpedition - stay tuned!
